For the 18 years I have taught in high needs SDC classes, I have been a witness to my students being excluded from activities every other student takes for granted. This includes participation in our after school programs, field trips, and even school celebrations. This isn’t just about funding. Leadership needs to have an inclusive mindset. Students with IEPs make our community whole. When we exclude them, we are doing a disservice to our entire school community, by depriving them of this wholeness.
