While we are in the midst of a surge, it is rapid yes, but it is not dire. We must keep kids in school, this is safest environment for our kids. We need to keep them in their community. We must move on together and keep away from any disruption and the terrible online school that we all know is not effective or healthy for our children.

Thank you OUSD and teachers for continuing to show up every day that they can for our children as we navigate this Omicron surge. It is so appreciated and it would be a huge blow to have to return to remote school even short term. While teachers and kids may have to miss school in order to quarantine, it is so important that we take advantage of every day that they can be in person so that they don't miss any more school than they have to. After well over a year of remote learning and all the social, emotional and academic harm that caused, Oakland students can't afford to be stuck at home again.

Please don't go back to remote school. Although we have high cases numbers the degree of illness is low. This appears to be more like a flu. My son suffered immensely under remote learning. Anxiety, mental health issues, and significant loss of learning. We have worked so hard to catch him up academically this year. I really don't want him to fall behind again. Please don't go remote. Thanks

Please keep the schools open. As a district, OUSD can't afford the state funding hit that will occur with remote learning, and by all accounts this wave will pass quickly. Omicron is also clearly less harmful to kids and vaccinated teachers than previous variants.

    Thanks,

    John

Thank you OUSD, OEA, teachers and staff for continuing to keep schools in-person while we ride another wave of Covid. Luckily, we have vaccines available to all students 5yrs and older which has made me feel comfortable sending my 5 & 6yr old to school over these last few weeks. Schools are safe and essential and should always be the first to open and the last to close. Thank you for keeping our schools open and for all of the mitigation efforts you have in place. We are so grateful.

Thank you to all OUSD teachers, administrators, and district leaders for all you are doing to keep our schools open and safe. Please keep it up. Our children need the consistency, normalcy, and community that only in-person instruction offers.

We want to express our gratitude to our teachers, staff, and administration that have made in-person learning possible this year. We can all see the damage that remote learning caused last year. Our teachers know it better than anyone based upon what they see in their classroom this year -- they are meeting our kids needs and allowing them to gain back their learning losses and recover emotionally. PLEASE, DO NOT CLOSE THE SCHOOLS NOW. We know how to keep schools safe and open now. We can rise to meet the needs of our community. DO NOT GO REMOTE!

I support Oakland schools to stay open! Please meet teacher demands to provide n95 masks to our students and staff and ensure students have safe spaces to eat outside. DO NOT CLOSE THE SCHOOLS. Oakland teachers, families and administrators, we can do this! We can rise to meet the needs of our community. DO NOT GO REMOTE!

I want to thank ALL teachers, school staff & district staff who have heroically kept their heads up & focus on students during this stressful time. It has been clear that OUSD's mitigation efforts have been solid in preventing large school spread, or even minor school spread over the last year. While the holiday surge of Omicron is quite tremendous, & many teachers and students have had to quarantine- we will see the surge pass & we will see that once again the mitigation efforts that are in place work. I condem those healthy teachers who are staying out of school for "sick outs" & hope that it does not distract the district from staying the course & continue being smart about the mitigation resource.. There are so many Oakland kids who need school to be in & encouraging families to keep kids out of school "as it costs the district money" is just plain wrong. For many, school is a safer place to be - both mentally & physically. These sick out actions do NOT make our community safer.

Thank you for all the efforts you're making to keep school open despite this surge. Our children are deeply benefitting from the consistency they are experiencing in the classroom, and all the efforts to keep them safe and emotionally sound. Please keep it up, our children need to be in physical school! Our community thanks you.

As essential workers, we want and we need our 3 children to be in school every day. We have no safety concerns when we send our children to school each day. We appreciate all that OUSD is doing to keep schools open/safe. Thank you.

I want to commend OUSD staff, teachers and students for staying open during this latest surge. Schools are the safest place for our kids to be and the only place they can learn. I know this is hard on everyone as folks get sick or are exposed to the virus, but with all school-age children eligible to be vaccinated, I very much believe schools are safe to keep open. My children are thriving in ways they never did last year, all because of in-person learning. Thank you so much!!!!

I want to thank OUSD admin, staff, and teachers for prioritizing kids needs and working to keep our schools open. The situation in schools may nor be normal or even ideal in some cases right now, but it's both safe and necessary to allow students to come in-person. I hope people will think about the vulnerable kids who need caring adults/teachers, food, a safe place, interaction with friends and classmates, and some degree of normalcy in their lives right now, which means keeping schools open.
