Regarding the proposed transaction with City of Oakland on the Piedmont Ave CDC: please assure that this transaction is of actual financial benefit to OUSD, and that the City has identified funding for the project--- or terminate negotiations. You would do the same if transacting on your own behalf. OUSD has already subsidized the customization of the current Piedmont Ave library site and it should be the CIty of Oakland or Piedmont or both who bear the costs on any current project. Meanwhile, the site only needs a small amount of cleanup and repair to reopen as an educational facility for young children, be it via Head Start or OUSD, and the Governor's budget indicates fiscal support. Please bear in mind the library is not the only possible program for this site and that it's walkability and proximity to public transportation make it an attractive option for families who could not get their children to the Kaiser site and who have been frozen out of the Emerson waiting list.
