C.-1 21-2351C-A Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2122-0014C-A - Amendment to Resolution No. 2122-0014C - Making Certain Findings Necessary To Permit Virtual Meetings In Specified Circumstances for January 2022.
I am the parent of an OUSD student and support the full implementation and funding of the resolution for ensuring access for social emotional and academic supports for students with disabilities because they should have access to all that general education students are provided with.
There is no reason to close schools now that vaccines are available and the science is clear that serious illness is statistically zero. CDC and CADPH have repeatedly stated that schools are safe and should stay open. We cannot close schools because of an extreme faction of teachers who do not "FEEL" safe. We must listen to the science and not the fear. SCHOOL IS ESSENTIAL
I am a student a Metwest and I strongly disagree with the decision. This is unnecessary and would affect many of the students and their families. Closing a school while being in quarantine would be extremely disruptive to a student’s learning. I know that by closing small schools, students like me would struggle and I know that that is not good for us. I strongly disagree.
Question: if u serve the public why is this a private affair? that makes me uncomfortable... we need our request met I don't want to stay demands, I wanna be polite. This is the time for you guys not to slack back it's time for you to step it uP we put our trust in you our children's trust & school staff. Are they in good care & in good standing?
I know the pandemic has affected everyone and that doesn't mean that our black and brown students have to continue to drown. you ALL are on the other side of the table you don't want to hear the discussion in the streets. Just think of James Baldwin's book I'm sure you know the one I'm alluding 2! We need Peace in Oakland already so please think this is going to go down in history. I hate violence but these babies are fed uP there on a hair trigger and they need that Safe Haven! their school sites must stay open I am 1 of the core leaders of the black student reparation resolution.

If you feel it's unsafe the hold an in-person meeting, then please consider what it's like for those on the "front lines" who have prolonged contact day in, day out. Students and staff need better safety protocols.
