OUSD needs to stop stalling and quickly bargain in good faith to implement increased safety measures arrived at in a new MOU that responds to the realities of the delta variant. As safety lead at Skyline I have been notified of 10 new cases in the last 8 days on our campus. Many of my students have been quarantined. We need weekly mandatory testing at all school sites to stop this disruption to student learning and make schools safe, by catching and isolating asymptomatic cases and students and staff. Last month, we have had 2 floods, twice been sent home for no water, unable to use the restroom, and a tree has fallen on a classroom. We need a stronger safety plan that goes well beyond just a vaccine mandate. We need investments in plumbing, HVAC, landscaping for fire and drought mitigation. We need more staffing and safer work conditions for the workers we do have. Finally, we need to look at the safety practices in our athletic programs. Are they being fully implemented?
It is despicable that OUSD is refusing to negotiate basic safety concerns outlined in OEA’s detailed proposal. You are putting students’ lives and health in danger every day you fail to neglect our concerns. Negotiate in good faith with OEA. Agree to our demands.
Dear Board of Ed Members, I want to add my voice to those of my neighbors in the San Antonio area. Please, PLEASE provide the certainty the Community School for Creative Education needs to continue to lift up our children and their futures. This is NOT the time to undermine your support for them. Nothing is more important to Oakland's future than our children, and CSCE has clearly demonstrated their commitment and their value to these children's lives. You must support this school and community by providing CSCE with a long term lease. Thank you for your work.
