Oppose work plan because it does NOT include replacement of pupil promotion retention policy that was dropped during state takeover. Pupil school parents are entitled to a copy of the Board's policy for pupil promotion retention for grades 2-12, Board not replacing the required policy means that public school parents right to that policy is being disrespected.
Current difference between parents of charter schools students and public school parents is public school parents are entitled to all rights in the State's Education Code whereas charter school parents are mentioned and thereby covered in only a few cases.
The Oakland School Board not passing policy on pupil promotion retention is not just doing its duty to live up to its pledge to follow State law, but lowering public school parents to the level of second class charter school parents that do not have equal protection of education code laws.
