V.-16 21-1828 Approval by the Board of Education of Amendment No. 1, Architectural Services Agreement by and between the District and Shah Kawasaki Architects, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide redesign and revised scope for the new administration building and plans for the first floor, as described in the Proposal dated July 7, 2021, attached to this Agreement as Exhibit A, for the Cole Administration Center Project, in an additional amount of $390,875.00, increasing Agreement not to exceed amount from $3,500,000.00 to $3,890,875.00, and extending the term of the Agreement from September 12, 2019 through December 31, 2022 to December 31, 2023 (an additional 365 calendar days). All other terms and conditions of the Agreement remain in full force and effect.
Board should be asking two questions: Why are we extending Cole contracts for a year - because we are already behind schedule? Also, $5.3 million in Cole contracts are being approved tonight to be paid out of Fund 35 - will Measure Y repay that amount or are we permanently using Fund 35 to cover these costs? As the first project coming out of Measure Y, we will be expecting you as board members to be keeping a very close eye on what is happening with this project, and if changes are made, costs go up or timeline is changed, that you are finding out why before we have again wasted hundreds of millions of dollars as we did with Measure J.
