V.-58 21-1760 Approval by the Board of Education of Amendment No. 1, Agreement by and between the District and the Peralta Community College District to Operate Gateway at Laney Alternative High School, to allow for payment of the final invoice due for Gateway to College enrolling more students than projected, for the period of July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, in the additional amount of $111,592.62, increasing the Agreement not to exceed amount $278,953.52 to $390,546.14. All other terms and conditions of the Agreement remain in full force and effect.
This is a program that serves a need for OUSD students and I support an arrangement that accommodates both parties. At the same time, I do not understand why the parties--fully aware that student enrollment varies from year to year-- would negotiate a minimum and maximum amount and then essentially ignore it when enrollment exceeds expectations. Would Peralta have refunded OUSD the parallel amount if enrollment was less than expected? In future years, i hope an agreement can be negotiated that does not require this type of change. Beyond that, what is the effect of characterizing the Gateway program as a "school."
