My name is Alfredo Oliveira, I’m a graduate of Lincoln continuation school I support this project even though I am not a resident of Oakland it’s good to see the community rebuild.
My name is Gia Lieu. I'm a student at Fremont High School, I'm going to be a senior this year. I am attending 5 weeks Pre-Apprenticeship at Cypress Mandela Training Center. As a member of OUSD and a resident of Oakland, I support this project because it's a great opportunity to rebuild and make our community better, and also help other people get jobs and more housing for everyone.
My name is Brayan Matias. I live in Oakland and i am now a senior a Fremont High School . Right now i am attending a 5 week internship at Cypress Mandela Training Center Inc. I support this development because I think this would be a great for us minorities to be presented and have our voices heard. Overall , to help people get jobs and to have a community become a much safer environment and city.
My name is David Guzman. I live in Oakland and am going into my senior year of high school at Fremont High School. Right now I am attending a 3-5 week internship program with students from San Leandro and Oakland at Cypress Mandela Training Center Inc. My name is Belgis Hassan, resident of district 6, parent of children at OUSD schools. I am here today as a parent leader with Bay Area PLAN to talk about the LCAP. The LCAP as written is not community friendly. The draft is nearly 80 pages long and is challenging for the families impacted by the LCAPs details to understand. To keep our kids safe it is imperative this information is disseminated so that is easy for families and community members to follow. I am calling on the district to create a highlight of the LCAPs goals with a thorough summary indicating how funds will be distributed
My name is Fathia Saleh, resident of district 7, parent of children at OUSD schools. I am here today as a parent leader with Bay Area PLAN to talk about the LCAP. My name is Naayem Awnallah, resident of district 3, parent of children at OUSD schools. I am here today as a parent leader with Bay Area PLAN to talk about the LCAP. The LCAP was designed to prioritize family engagement and create a community decision model however participation is low and outreach efforts are minimal. Investment in parent engagement can yield more promising results for student achievement and teacher retention yet the expenditure table shows if divided up equally OUSD’s schools will receive a mere 23 thousand dollars for family engagement while more than 25 millions dollars are listed as TBD. To #KeepOurKidsSafe OUSD needs to invest in family engagement.
My name is Suad Mohamed, resident of district 3, parent of 3children at OUSD schools. I am here today as a parent leader with Bay Area PLAN to talk about the LCAPTransparency surrounding upcoming budget decisions has been less than satisfactory. The Fiscal Transparency Dashboard for OUSD is displaying information from the 2019-2020 school year as of last week I learned the individual responsible has been laid off and not rehired. As a community member it is my right to know how, when, and where OUSD intends to allocate public education funds especially when math and reading proficiency averages for OUSD schools are below the CA state average.
My name is Amani Almatri, resident of district 3, parent of 6 children at OUSD schools. I am here today as a parent leader with Bay Area PLAN to talk about the LCAP. The LCAP draft is only available in English making it difficult for families that do not speak english to be engaged in the review of the LCAP. Nearly one-third of OUSD students are English Language Learners, by not providing translation a significant portion of our community does not have the opportunity to provide feedback. Prioritize language access in all of its forms, create a budget for interpretation/translation services, use accessible language, provide on-site interpreters where need is demonstrated.
