S.-4 21-0717 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2021-0046 - Prioritizing Social Emotional Wellbeing, Mental Health, and Credit Recovery Support Services In Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
As a a parent leader at my daughter's school and an education justice advocate who partners with many students and families of color in the district, I write to express my strong support for this resolution and expectation that resources will be put in place for implementation. As our students, staff and families return to campus in the fall, we want to return to communities full of joy, hope and healilng. That will take a strong focus on relationship-centered practices and structures with staff, students, families and community partners and staffing to support. We have to recognize that a shift in culture and approach requires intentionality, communication, planning and capacity building, especially to those who are most critical to owning such a shift at the site level (including principals). I urge the district to invest now in strong site-based teams that include students and families with staff to plan collaboratively this summer for a restorative return to school this fall.
