The March 1, 2020 letter to OUSD from FCMAT states that a school closure and consolidation plan would save the district $15 million annually when fully implemented. Since school closures have cost the district funding every year they were implemented (with this year being no exception with Sankofa attracting far fewer students than projected), I do not find this hyper-positive projection believable and I know I am not alone in finding the behind the scenes attempt to change the July budget language to require school closures to be underhanded and appear to represent some unknown interest, not the public's nor the students'. I ask this committee to have FCMAT come forward with the calculations behind the $15 million figure.
