V.-42 21-0192 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2021-0036 - Finding that Charter Schools Could Not Be Accommodated at a Single Site and Written Statement of Reasons Explaining the Finding.
It is imperative that all students and staff have adequate space at all times. It has already been determined by the formula OUSD is using to adhere to from ACPHD and CAL OSHA that the space requirements is increasing dramatically. Most classrooms can only hold about a third of the students previously packed into a space. In order to prep for our safe return we must consider space in a new way. We can not continue to shove our SPED teachers and classes into spaces which are not meant to be classroom.
It is unconscionable that district personnel disregard the principals' assessment of spaces. Montera cannot endure the colocation of AICHS on their campus, during a pandemic and post pandemic era. This may remove access to support services including Catholic Services, providing counseling services, doubling up SPED spaces, when these are the students that require the most space and the most support, and the loss of conflict resolution and peer circles. Not to mention the use of bathrooms, that cannot be allocated or removed from use from our wheelchair bound students, and the dividing up of cafeteria and gym areas. This proposal is unconscionable!
OUSD must ensure that a maximum of students are in school when safe, including ensuring social distance measures are in place. OUSD must use the COVID capacity numbers to ensure safe densities for schools next year. Revise the available classroom numbers using the COVID capacity numbers OUSD has already prepared and issue multi-site resolutions as required.
