H.-3 20-2022 Decision Public Hearing by the Board of Education adopting Staff Report - Recommendations/Findings - Approving Lighthouse Community Charter Public Schools - Lighthouse Community Charter School - Material Revision - Two revisions: 1) Slight increase in overall enrollment from 490 to 515 to meet the demand of the community; 2) Changes to lottery preferences or admission procedures, i.e., Revision of enrollment priorities in order to accommodate recruiting and accepting an unsheltered student population to meet the demands of one of Oakland's most vulnerable student population - unsheltered youth, for Grades K-8 - July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2026.
I am excited about the Lighthouse community taking the initiate to adapt their program and enrollment preferences to prioritize unsheltered students. I can think of few better ways that a school community to acknowledge the incredible challenges East Oakland families are facing than by adapting an even more intentional program and enrollment preference. This material revision has great potential for showing how schools can target and serve our most vulnerable communities. Thank you for your consideration.
