H.-1 20-2039 Decision Public Hearing by the Board of Education adopting Staff Report - Recommendations/Findings - Approving AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District - AIMS College Prep Middle School (formerly American Indian Public Charter School) - Petition and Proposed Charter - Grades 6-8 - July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2026 ( 5 Year Renewal).
I am in absolute support of AIMS renewal for both middle school and high school and cannot wait for my kids to continue their education at AIMS until they enter college. AIMS have been so impressive in their schooling, faculty, and staff that I sing praises to all the time to my friends, family, and strangers. I am very proud to be #aimstrong.
Excited to support the renewal of AIMS, an outstanding quality option and Oakland’s only high performing school for low income Black students. Thank you, board for your support!
I am the Executive Director at Oakland Enrolls, a nonprofit that aims to empower families to choose the best public school for their child. Our organization also manages the common charter application, of which AIMS has been a part since its inception. AIMS' Superintendent Maya Woods-Cadiz, is also a committed founding member of Oakland Enrolls' Steering Committee, where she advocates for families and school quality. AIMS' dedication to providing high-quality school options to families is apparent and I am proud to work with them.
AIMSK12 Middle School is one of the highest performing public schools in the city of Oakland, all while serving a student population
with over 75% of families qualifying for free and reduced lunch, AIMS has proven that underserved students can compete academically with the best, when given adequate support and resources, and I strongly urge the OUSD board to show they value quality over politics and renew the charter for a term of 7 years.
I have been apart of the AIMS administration for the last seven years and I am proud to be apart of an organization that has truly made a difference in education for children of color and children that have been traditionally underserved. AIMS continues to raise the bar of multi-dimensional academic excellence while meeting the fundamental and socio-emotional needs of our students. There is a strong emphasis of identity and social development and supporting and creating a school environment that is always developing, complex and rich.
We are truly a family at AIMS and we want to continue to help our families succeed and break systemic racism and the cycle of poverty.
Teaching at AIMS for the past five years has been wonderful. The other staff members are so supportive, and our students and community really have grown together. AIMS truly feels like a family!
AIMS is a great 6-12 option for our town's youth and I am in strong support of their renewal. They have strong academic outcomes for all of their students and are an institution I deeply respect. They should be renewed.
As a senior staff of AIMS, I am proud to stand out and support the renewal for AIMS College Prep Middle School! AIMS administration dedicates to create a safe educational environment for our scholars for our diverse community and our kids can live and learn in harmony like a family here! And so our community is more inclusive and less confronting.
I really appreciate the fact that this school teaches our students what they need to learn. As a mother of two students who have been at AIMS for a while, I can say that my kids are doing wonderful and the teachers and staffs doing an amazing job helping our children to succeed.
I really appreciate the excellent work by the leadership team and the staff in making this an excellent school.
It gets children interested in learning and ready for the next stage of their lives.
I have a 9th grader at AIMS and she is thriving! I support the AIMS renewal charter! AIMS has the ability to pour into our kids. AIMS is good for our children, our families and our communities! AIMS really invest in the education and the future of our kids! Please allow AIMS to continue to invest in our future leaders! AIMS STRONG!
Aims is a great school and provides one of the best and useful curriculums in Oakland. My two children have been provided useful tools and electives that will help them pursue a career of their choice. This school is needed and if this school is taken away it would be a huge disservice to our future leaders and the community. There should be more schools like Aims available in Oakland. If this school is taken away, I would be forced to put my very bright students in a school who’s curriculum is not up to par. Please keep Aims around for decades to come!
I would like to request school to be continuing. It was a good school &good academic to all the kids.
I feel very comfortable and happy to have all my 3 kids at this school. I trusted the school system and I believe this school will lead all my kids to be successful in the future.
It will be a big lost for all the kids if the school is closed. Please put our kids future on priority.

My 7th grader has been at AIMS for just a few months but we have been impressed by the small class sizes, the student accountability and the inclusion across all Sofio-economic and cultural differences. We strongly support the charter renewal.
I am a father of an eight grader at AIMS and I have nothing to say but good things about this school, their staff is AMAZING!! every single person there is super capable, professional and super supportive. My daughter truly enjoys her school and her teachers. God blessed my family when he put this school on our way.
My name is mengsteab and I have 2 kids @ AIMS I really support continued as charter school for the next 7 years. AIMS Techer’s like Miss Sedano or other Techer’s or staff members like Miss Oden they support our kids anytime if they need help even after school night or Saturday and Sunday
I am a father of 5, and all 5 of my children go to AIMS. My children's teachers have been Black, Latino, and Asian; my children are Black and Latino and have friends who are of many different races and hues. Any criticism of this school community of racism, bullying, and bias, while speaking from a place of anonymity (hiding their name), should be considered "suspect" at best. AIMS employs a very talented and hard-working staff of administrators and teachers, who have done a great job with my children. I support AIMS, it's mission, it's charter, and it's staff.
