I strongly support this plan and urge the Board to approve it for the benefit of the community and for the important data that it can provide in designing a comprehensive plan for desegregating all Oakland schools so that every single student at every school across the Oakland map can have access to an education that is meaningful for them and for their future.
I am a current 6th grade teacher at Edna Brewer. I strongly urge the school board to support the proposed pilot for Edna Brewer. This is our opportunity to preserve the socio-economic diversity at Edna Brewer. If OUSD is committed to equity, then please approve this pilot. Thank you.
As a parent of two Edna Brewer students and an OUSD elementary student, I support this initiative. I urge the board to take this step towards making access to quality schools more equitable.
I strongly urge the school board to support the proposed enrollment pilot for Edna Brewer. We worked very hard on data, engaging the community, and coming to an agreement. Difficult conversations were had and as a community we value diversity; racial and socio-economic. Thank you. EBMS teacher, LGBTQI+ Liaison, coach, club advisory, and member of Panthers for Diversity and Inclusion (P4DI) enrollment working group.
I fully support the new guidelines proposed for EBMS enrollment. Please vote yes to make space for a wide range of socioeconomic diversity at Edna Brewer, which will more equitably reflect Oakland’s diversity.

I am a teacher at Edna Brewer. This is my 11th year at the school and I have seen a change in school demographics with the changing of the neighborhood residents (gentrification) . I am born and raised in SF and have seen how gentrification has impacted the public schoolS there, making this initiative even more important here in Oakland. As previously stated quality schools like Brewer should be available to ALL Oakland students. I strongly support this initiative , please approve it!
As a parent of a student at Edna Brewer, I strongly value the economic diversity the school offers, and support this proposal. The process involved many staff members and teachers, and is in the spirit of having quality schools available to all Oakland students. Please approve this proposal.
This pilot is critical to keep the diversity at Edna Brewer Middle School, which was one of the top reasons we chose it for my son two years ago. Please pass this resolution.
I have a child in a feeder school to Edna Brewer, who I hope to send there in a few years. And we have one coming behind her. From everything I can tell, folks are very pleased with the work this group has done, and where they landed with their enrollment proposal. I am in favor of saving the lottery spots disproportionally for low income families, and other categories of marginalized folks.
Please LISTEN to their proposal and APPROVE it. It is a step in the right direction for equity.
The longer term answer is to build on the strength that exists in every neighborhood, and to ensure quality education options in EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD. Thank you
I am in full support of the Edna Brewer Initiative to have an enrollment practice that preserves the diversity within our school. I deeply believe in the benefit for all students of a diverse student body. I also think it is essential that the Oakland School District move towards a model that allows all students to have access to an excellent education regardless of place of residence; this relies on schools in more affluent neighborhoods to prioritize diversity within their student body and draw from neighborhoods outside their zoning. I believe this initiative is a really important step towards such goals of equity and diversity and will provide very relevant information for long term planning and devising enrollment practices that serve all kids in Oakland.

I am a current and proud Edna Brewer parent. I support approval of the enrollment pilot at Enda Brewer and urge the Board members to do the same.
