AIA is important to me because it's filled with people who have helped me since my freshman year. My experience at AIA has supported me by keeping me prepared for my future. Something I appreciate about AIA is how the people there support each other. AIA is special to me because it's a small school and everybody knows everybody and it's more comfortable and I appreciate that.

One thing I appreciate about aia is that the teachers don't give you too much work and once you finish it after they give you the option to do other work from other classes or have a break.

AIA has been a good learning place you get alot of support you just have to take that advantage and actually work with your teachers and its not a big school so everyone knows eachother and everyone gets along.

This is my first year in AIA but in the first week of school, the staff would always ask me how I’m doing and if I needed anything and I felt like they really cared not only about my education but about me. Aia is a special place because they really care about my education and want to help me move further into life.

AIA is important to me because it has giving me the sense of home. I recently moved from a school that wasn't so great to me, it was really bias and not as helpful as I wanted it to be. When I moved to Cali, I looked into different schools and AIA stood out to me because of the way they taught, the way they unified all different types of people regardless of their color, the way they would help us get into great colleges which help us turn into adults that can help and change the world.

AIA is important to me because it is a safe learning environment that I did not have at my previous school. My experience at AIA has supported me by helping me achieve a 4.0 GPA and explore and learn more about careers I'm interested in. Something I appreciate about AIA is the supportive coaches and staff. You can trust them with anything whether it is school related or not. We receive the 1 on 1 and attention we need. AIA is a special place because it is the one place that has really educated me in college, my future, helped me succeed, and has unconditional support for their students as well as treating them all equally. I have seen myself grow drastically as a person and academically for the better ever since I got to AIA.

Something I appreciate about AIA is that the staff is very supportive and helpful. They’re supportive with both school issues and house issues. They support you and give you breaks if necessary.

    Dear OUSD Board,
I write this comment in favor of the approval of Alternatives in Action's charter petition. Alternatives in Action is a unique and precious gem within Oakland. It is unique its student population, providing alternatives for youth that might not succeed within the traditional high school system. It is unique in how youth lead conversations and guide decision-making. I have attended several Board meetings where students present and bring proposals to the Board. There are very few schools in California that elevate youth voice to the level that Alternatives in Action does. AIA is a school created by youth, and for youth. Alternatives in Action is the only school of its kind within Oakland. For this, and many more reasons, I strongly urge the Board to vote in support of AIA. If not, Oakland will be losing one of its most precious centers of community.
