Overall, I support the streamlined policy to allow smaller grants to be accepted by senior staff and to forego the annual report which seemed to be both cumbersome and incomplete. At the same time, I recommend that there be some form of reporting to the Board, such as a monthly listing of grants accepted, simply listing the donor, amount, site, date and purpose. Having this report come to the board also puts it before the public. In this age of private money in public education, having a public eye on donations is important. I oppose adoption until the process of how to make the acceptance public without unduly impinging on staff can be incorporated.
