C.-2 19-2221 6:30 PM - Public Hearing by the Board of Education of Francophone Charter School of Oakland - Petition and Proposed Charter - Grades TK-8 - July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2025 (Renewal).
Ethnic population of African Americans 25% put on page 64 test scores not provided as group taking the test was statistically insignificant. What happened on the day of testing of 25% of the school population?
Oakland School for the Arts is an incredible asset for the City of Oakland that fosters talent from all neighborhoods, including the "hidden geniuses" of voice, dance, visual art, theater, digital media and more. The school provides a unique opportunity for passionate young artists to develop their craft while also pursuing college-prep academics. I am incredibly grateful that my son and his peers can benefit from this unique and innovative school. Thank you!
I support Oakland School for the Arts charter renewal. OSA gives students in the arts a place to be taken seriously.
OSA has provided both of my sons with a rigorous high school arts education. The instrumental music program keeps my 11th grade musician motivated not only at school, but beyond school hours as well. He dashes from OSA to rehearsals, recording sessions and performances every day. This is the best I could ever imagine for my teenage boy— he is confident, engaged, and pursuing his passion with a diverse group of peers.
My older son graduated from OSA and is now thriving at UCSC.
Like any school, OSA has had its share of difficult discussions and “issues.” I am consistently impressed at the transparency, intelligence, compassion and vision that the school leaders bring to these situations. This is a well-functioning school with committed people running it. Please allow it to continue to do what it is already doing so well.
I am writing you today in support of NOCCS. My nonprofit organization We Lead Ours have provided the school with direct services in the after-school space since 2016. What I really enjoy most about partnering with NOCCS is their willingness to open up the school to the entire North Oakland Community I also have enjoyed how the school curriculum encourages youth to explore the world through art. I personally know the school may have some issues but as a professional with more than 15 years of educational experiences I strongly believe that NOCCS is working towards making the school site an inclusive learning environment. Please consider my statement as a letter of support for NOCCS.
Roses continues to stand for social justice, community outreach, and family engagement.
Our Students with disabilities feel safe as they learn new concepts inside the classroom.
Thank you for your understanding to keep Roses OPEN.
