Libraries make people live longer. That is a fact. Austerity starts at the top, not in places that directly create positive outcomes for students. Listen to your constituents.
With Aimee Eng's amendment, Measure G Library allocations are still spread too thin. This formula goes against community, library staff, District Library Manager, and Measure G Committee recommendations. Restore Measure G Library allocations to be centrally managed for purpose of equity and maintaining libraries. Libraries are a fundamental program that supports student achievement.
Look around you: you do NOT have a mandate to close our schools and decimate our libraries and other support programs. Put STUDENTS FIRST by keeping Measure G centrally funded, maintaining RJ, and fully funding our schools.
RJ has been a key program that have helped my children thrive in middle school and develop life long skill for community relations, classroom dynamics and overall health and well being. This program teaches how to dialogue and implements tools so students with conflicts can resolve them without suspensions or other corporal methodologies. Please retail the Restorative Justice Program funding. Do not cut this program as it positively impacts so many OUSD children. Thank you.
I oppose the reallocation of Measure G library funds. Instead, please keep the current centralized funding structure. Reallocating the money will dismantle the amazing progress made at existing libraries in many schools (thanks to the library staff and teachers) with no guarantee that any school will be able to afford to keep a library staffed.
As an Oakland resident, voter, and educator, I strongly oppose the proposed cuts to classified positions. Keep school libraries open, fully fund restorative justice, foster youth supports, and APISA. Our most vulnerable students should not bear the brunt of OUSD's mismanagement.
