I oppose AB 1840. I think this is terrible that OUSD is having this mtg with minimal notice. Did the board not learn anything during the stirke? You need to rebuild the community's trust. Do NOT sell out our schools to charters!!! WE have too many now. How is it that the district has money to pay outside contractors for surveys, audits, PR firms and claim the district is broke? WALK THE TALK and take a hard look at district level positions before cutting school services

    I am against AB 1840.

The time (10:30) of this meeting means that virtually no one will have a chance to voice their very real concerns. This is a very bad look for the school board and the district. Transparency and a demonstration of willingness to listen to the families of our city would be far preferable. Please cancel this meeting, and please do so as a sign that you would like to rebuild our community's trust.

It unfathomable that you were consider selling property owned by the citizens before you would go through your own administration positions ( you’ve made some cuts, not enough!). OUSD has the highest per student administration in the state by a wide margin! Yet, the plan is to reduce costs by reducing the quality of education? Smaller schools are more beneficial to impoverished youth than a couple hundred administrators pulling in $175-250,000 a year! You do not own the schools; the people do.

You are doing this to hurt the OUSD community, that you were elected to represent. NO SCHOOL CLOSURES! Do not pass AB1840 and stop expanding charter schools and focus on our public schools and the community that deserves good schools in the city they live. You know having this meeting at 10:30 is sneaky but you seem to NOT CARE ABOUT US anymore

This meeting is a joke. 10:30 on a Monday? Get in touch with the wants and needs of your constituents. If you want austerity have it start from the top.

Reschedule this meeting to a time when the people it will affect: students, parents, teachers, can actually attend.

School closures should not happen. Stop mismanagement of funds. The money should be for the teachers, nurses, and students. Not overpaid administrators.

The time (10:30) of this undemocratic is meeting really horrible. The public will not have a chance to voice concerns. The optics of this meeting is really making it hard for the public to trust any of you. Please cancel this meeting to rebuild trust with the community.

You missed your March 1st deadline under AB 1840 and Karen Monroe does not have the authority to grant an extension. How can you justify these cuts?

Janis Falco about 5 years ago

    A. nullify the debt created by FCMAT’ s required loan and it’s failure to set up effective systems.
    B. request a deadline delay for implementing AB 1840 until the loan is forgiven and the Port of Oakland has been assessed a property tax to pay its fair share,
    D. and the Board is able to conduct a cost benefit analysis of all District charter schools that are do not perform well and are a financial liability,
    C. and unionized schools are protected until new charter school legislation is law.

I urge the Board to cancel this meeting. It is undemocratic and downright shady to hold a meeting during the school day just after a seven day strike has ended. I find the actions of this Board absolutely apalling. I also believe Director Jumoke Hinton-Hodge should resign and be charged with assault for her violent actions on Friday.

Cancel this meeting!! To try to sneak in a Monday morning meeting of such importance on the first day back after a strike
ratification tells the community that the school board is under-handed and cannot be trusted. When will the District stop
    betraying the public trust.

No cuts to restorative justice or classified positions while district is paying millions for downtown office space. Austerity starts at the top!

The timing of this meeting doesn't allow for community participation. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to exclude dissenting voice.

Displacing La Escuelita students and calling a public meeting at a time you knew majority of the public would be unavailable to attend and voice their concerns. Reschedule😡

Coreen Steigerwald about 5 years ago

I oppose the timing of this meeting. OUSD employees will be returning to work tomorrow and unable to attend. Or was that your intention? I also second the call for Janine Hinton-Hodge to resign, she choked a teacher with a smile on her face. She should actually be charged with assault.

The scheduling of this board meeting is highly suspect, and everyone on this board should be ashamed of themselves for trying to circumvent the democratic process. Jumoke Hinton Hodge should also resign for her behavior. The moral bankruptcy of the whole board is showing.

Please hold the meeting at a convenient time for public time. This is especially important for the students we serve!!!

This meeting time is inaccessible and undemocratic. Shame.
