17-0586 Ratification by the Board of Education of Amendment No. 1, Professional Services Contract between the District and Aliyya Sharif, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide an additional three months of service working closely with Refugees and Asylum Seekers Advice Project (RASAP) staffer Nate Dunstan to collect and summarize data on the Yemeni community in the District, including: visiting at least 15 school sites across District with the highest concentrations of students from Yemen and meet with Yemeni students and parents either in groups or individually to determine challenges and needs in the following areas: immigration; health insurance and access to public assistance; Arabic language access at school; mental health services; after-school and enrichment programs; school climate and sensitivity related to Arab/Muslim students; other available community resources; interview at least one staff member from each school, ideally the Community School Program Manager, Parent Partner, Principal or other relevant staff to collect information about what relevant services exist on site, and what the school believes are the challenges and needs; share final data and resources with each school site; collect data on existing known resources relevant to Yemeni students and families in and around Oakland; produce final data report, and summary to be shared throughout District and Yemeni community as needed, extending the term of Contract from January 23, 2017 through April 1, 2017, to June 30, 2017, at no additional cost. All other terms and conditions of the Contract remain in full force and effect.
