My son plays at the highest level club soccer year round, plus has played varsity soccer for Oakland Tech from his Freshman year on. Under the current policy, he is still required to take a second year of PE. I believe that any student athlete should become exempt from a second year of PE provided he/she plays at least 1 varsity/JV sport for a minimum of 1 season. Playing a team sport for the school should count towards covering PE credit.

I think this is a great idea and support the recommendation! Club sports are just as rigorous as sanctioned OAL high school sports. My daughter plays OT soccer (sanctioned) and OT lacrosse (club), and there is no difference in the quality and competition. Thank you, Chan U Lee

I strongly support the policy outlined by Principal Ross-Morrison at recent Oakland Tech PTSA meeting to provide PE credit for club sports offered through the school. As volunteer hockey coach for the past three years I have had the pleasure of seeing dozens of Oakland Tech students work hard to learn the game and become sufficiently skilled to win a league championship. The program leverages the unique opportunity provided by the city-owned Oakland Ice Center. Please adopt the proposed policy.

I strongly support PE credit for club sports that are offered through a high school. Oakland Tech offers ice hockey, rowing, and lacrosse through clubs and these sports are every bit as rigorous and time intensive as the official OAL sponsored school sports. My daughter is on the girls lacrosse team. Earlier this year she played on Tech's volleyball and jv soccer teams and lacrosse is every bit as intensive, if not more so! I strongly support the proposed policy.
