I urge you to act with your peers to rescind resolution #25-0492 and to restore full funding for after-school programs across OUSD. We need aftercare to send our kids to OUSD!
Families cannot send their children to OUSD schools unless they have reliable, quality care for the full day. I don’t know any households where either the sole parent or both parents do not work full time. We in Oakland already battle the high costs of living and fight to stay safe and keep our kids educated here. I love Oakland and I believe in our future. This measure will be a death knell to many families’ ability to send their kids to school at OUSD. It makes no sense, either from a budgetary move or motivated in any way by good faith.
Do not let this happen on your watch. Districts where parents can rely on quality care for their children all day are the backbone of thriving, prosperous, progressive communities.
This devastating cut to a critical *already funded* service doesn’t have to happen!
